In 2007, black fungi was discovered growing inside and around the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Dr. Arturo Casadevall surmised that there may be a method of leveraging the properties of this fungi and their appetite of ionizing radiation.

The patent protected technology leverages melanin, the molecule that makes skin darker. The scientific basis for this innovation is related to the same properties of melanin that allow people with darker skin to have less risk of sunburn or skin cancers. Melanin is a scavenger of tissue damaging free radicals. It is this science that is being applied to the inside of the body during exposure to radiation.
